We are just into the first week of October and there have already been three great weekends of cyclocross racing in the Midwest. Prologue Cross opened the Kansas and Missouri seasons with two great days of racing on a new course in Kansas City. The event was well received and challenged riders with a variety of obstacles and terrain.

The following weekend, Jingle Cross in Iowa City was on most riders’ radar. As a World Cup event, the popular race weekend brought in riders worldwide. Plenty of great spectating, exciting racing, and ancillary events made for a full weekend of cycling action.

The Kansas City area welcomed another new venue with Castle Cross put on by the good folks over at LocalCycling.com. Held in the Jazz District at 18th and Vine, the course offered many unique and challenging features, including a ride through the “castle,” rough cobbled pathways, and gravel, and pavement sections.

Kansas City area riders will be treated to two more days of cross this weekend with Cliff Drive Cross. The event is the 3rd and 4th races in the Kansas Best Cyclocross Racer/Team Series. In addition to the cross races, the Kessler Fiesta will host a full weekend of activities:

“This year, we are stepping it up! Friday evening dirt jump jam. Saturday downhill MTB, cyclocross, and Cliffhanger races. Sunday trail run, longboarding stoke clinic, cross country MTB, and cyclocross races. Demos for disc golf, natural rock climbing, and road/MTB cycling all weekend. The FRESH food truck will be keeping people fueled up. Beer, duh. Please invite everyone you know, and let’s KESSLER FIESTA!”
