What has over 300,000 lights, 1000 wheels, and plenty of Christmas spirit? That would be Trip the Lights Fantastic cycling event that was held Tuesday night at Longview Lake in Lee’s Summit, Missouri.
The cyclists were jolly, bikes were decked out with more than just bows of holly, and riders were dressed and decorated to showcase their holiday cheer. Temperatures in the lower 30s couldn’t dampen the holiday spirit of over 500 cyclists who converged on the park for the first bike ride through the Christmas in the Park light display.
It was a huge turnout for the event which opens the display early, allowing cyclists a first look at the annual holiday display.
The 4 mile ride began at the Frank White Ball Fields at Longview Community College. The Salvation Army was set up to provide warm drinks for riders while music played while they waited to start the ride. Even Mac, the Missouri Mavericks mascot, was on hand to showcase his latest dance moves.
A wide range of riders, from those who race to families pulling kids in trailers, rode together as they began to wind their way along through the park. As they entered the holiday display they were met with a brilliant Christmas light show.
As riders exited the park, they were met by a live band as well as hot chocolate and coffee courtesy of Gusto Coffee Bistro. Many participants stuck around to eat and drink in the New Longview restaurants and eateries.
