Update 4:50pm: The Shawnee Police Department has notified us that they have identified the vehicle involved and identified the suspected driver. They are currently working with the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit and Crime Lab to process the suspect’s vehicle.

The suspect has been identified and released. They are continuing to work on the case and will be sending all the reports to the Johnson County District Attorney’s Office for review. The injured bicyclist, 62-year old Steve McCrary, remains in the hospital.

At about 5:30am a male bicyclist, now identified as Steve McCrary, was riding westbound on Shawnee Mission Parkway near Vista. He was struck and injured by a westbound vehicle.

The cyclist, who was conscious when contacted by fire and police personnel, was transported to the Overland Park Regional Medical Center’s Trauma Center by Med-Act and remains in critical condition.

The striking vehicle, identified by witnesses as a white truck with possible front end damage, continued westbound on Shawnee Mission Parkway. Shawnee police department stated that the investigation is ongoing.
