The 29th Annual Spring Fling Criterium is on the calendar! The 2023 Spring Fling Series will be held every Saturday between February 25th and March 25th. The Spring Fling series is an annual cycling event held at Clinton Lake State Park in Lawrence, Kansas. The event attracts cyclists from all over the region and is known for its fast-paced, exciting races. The criterium, or crit, is a type of road race that takes place on a short circuit, typically around a city park or other public area. Generally, roads are closed for the safety of riders. Many people refer to criterium racing as, “NASCAR on two wheels”.
The series features races for cyclists of all skill levels, participants can choose from a variety of races, including individual time trials, sprints, mass-start events. The races are held on a challenging circuit, with tight turns and rolling hills that test the riders’ skills and endurance.

Races have been held in blistering cold with snow on the ground and later races can be sunny with temps in the 70s or 80s! The circuit is well-marked with great pavement and is staffed with volunteers and officials, helping to increase the safety for the riders and spectators.
