Ultimate workout wearable is first chest-based tracker on market to capture live rep counting
(Atlanta, GA – January 29, 2015) – Wahoo Fitness, the leader in workout apps and smartphone connected devices, has integrated the TICKR X Workout Tracker into the 7 Minute Workout App, becoming the first company to achieve live rep counting in a chest-based wearable.
The 7 Minute Workout, first published in the American College of Sports Medicine Journal, consists of 12 body weight exercises, each performed for 30 seconds with a 10 second interval in
between, and the only equipment required is a chair and a wall. The TICKR X pairs with the app via Bluetooth and prompts the user for each exercise, timing the effort and counting the reps before moving on to the next. Users can then review their data post workout. Planned upgrades include maintaining a user’s personal best for each exercise and integrating heart rate and calories burned. The app, called 7 Minute Workout, is available in the App store today. The TICKR X available at WahooFitness.com and in specialty retailers for $99.99.
“We see strength training workouts as an exploding category and want to provide users with important motion analytic capabilities like rep counting”, says Chip Hawkins, CEO of Wahoo Fitness. “Runners, cyclists and gym-goers often do strength boosting workouts to improve their cardio, and the 7 Minute Workout combined with the TICKR X is a great way monitor your reps, heart rate and calorie burn while keeping you honest.”
The TICKR X’s rep-counting feature is part of a library of over 20 proprietary motion-based algorithms, developed by Wahoo’s dedicated team of motion experts and firmware engineers. Indoor cycling cadence and running form (including vertical oscillation and ground contact time) are also part of the offering, with new exercises being added each day.
In addition to motion analytics, the TICKR X’s memory can capture the workout metrics of heart rate, calorie burn, and duration in device-free mode and can auto-sync the data to a smartphone later, ideal for high-intensity workouts where carrying a phone is not an option. Athletes can then upload their TICKR X workouts from online or offline mode to over 50 of the most popular fitness apps including Runkeeper, Strava, MapMyFitness and Cyclemeter/Runmeter.
