You wouldn’t know it from the weather here in the region this week but the start of the road season is quickly approaching. This weekend is the scheduled start of the 2015 Midwest Road Season.

This past weekend’s traditional season opener, Froze Toes Road Race, has been moved to March 8th to give last week’s snows some time to melt. As a result, if the weather cooperates, the Frozen Waffles Training Road Race in Springfield, MO will serve as the first race of the Missouri racing calendar.

Two great races are scheduled to open the Kansas racing season. Saturday’s Spring Fling Criterium Series  in Lawrence and Sunday’s ALS Road Series at Perry Lake just north of Lawrence are two great races that have a long history in the area and provide some great early season racing opportunities.

It isn’t all about the road though. A little further south, in Norman, OK riders will be hitting the trails for the Sooner Stampede.

The Crosswinds Cycling Classic Road Race will be held on Saturday in North Little Rock.
