Despite one of the biggest winter storms to hit the area in years, Spring Fling #1 went on as planned (with a one hour delayed start) at Clinton Lake State Park, in Lawrence on Saturday. Park crews did a great job plowing the course and the promoter and volunteers finished fine tuning the course to get it ready for racers to open the 2013 road season. Mother Nature may have decided not to let us forget what season it is but 127 riders showed up to face the cold conditions.
This year, they have added back in a field for the men’s category 2 riders with a 2/3 field. Joseph Fox took top honors with his first place finish followed closely by Brian West and Ben Stover who finished 2nd and 3rd respectively. Ann Micheal took the top spot in both the women’s 3/4 and 4 categories.
