Unseasonably warm weather and strong winds greeted riders at Topeka’s local “avondcross”, or evening cyclo-cross event, held at the Heartland Park dirt track in Topeka.  Storms threatened but ended up relenting and the event remained dry.  This was the penultimate race of the KBCXR/KBCXT series which will culminate with the Kansas State Cyclo-cross Championships on December 8th. Participants raced into the evening hours as the sun set and darkness fell.

A great turn-out ensured a great evening of racing and some hard-fought battles. Andrew Coe continued to show why he is one of the strongest ‘cross racers around with a victory in the 1/2 field. After a very successful road season, including wins at the Tour of KC and The Tour of Lawrence, Catherine Walberg of Team Tulsa Tough Racing /Tulsa Wheelmen added another win to her palmarès.
